Portrait of a Gentleman - SOLD
Author : Pittore genovese della fine del XVII secolo
Period: 17th century
A loggia enriched by a green drape serves as the backdrop to the studiolo of the depicted character. The darkness of the scene is interspersed with the red of the armchair and the white of the wig and embroidered shirt worn by the man. The half-bust figure, positioned at a three-quarter angle, holds a note in his right hand; on the small table in front of him rests a glove and the inkwell with the quill. The other hand, resting on the armrest of the armchair, wears a iridescent white satin glove. The black toga he is depicted wearing leads us to believe that perhaps the wealthy character could have been a senator of the Genoese Republic, but without knowledge of the exact identity, there is no certainty about the true occupation of the person portrayed. What is certain is the pictorial quality! Dimensions: canvas 120 x 94 cm - frame 145 x 127 cm
