Pharmaceutical vases - Savona late 17th early 18th century - SOLD

Splendid pair of pharmaceutical vases for electuaries in majolica with “calligraphic naturalistic” decoration. Savona, late 16th, early 17th century. Both vases feature a rounded body decorated in blue monochrome on white enamel, one with an intense blue color and the other with a lighter azure; ribbon handles start from the neck and rest on the heads of grotesque lateral masks. The cartouche on the front of the first bears the inscription of the medicine Sir.de Sumoterre, the second the pharmaceutical inscription Cof. Betonice. On both, there is a noble coat of arms inside which a crowned eagle rests on two columns and above, to crown it, there is a helmet with foliate lambrequins. The surrounding space is painted with birds and animals typical of calligraphic naturalistic decoration. The back sides are decorated with figures, scenes of thanksgiving, testimony of grace received or the fulfillment of a vow. Height: 28 cm - mouth diameter: 15 cm - foot diameter: 11 cm
